The follow outlines the process for Magma grant requests.
The intent of these sponsored/directed funds is to “kickstarting” sustainable, Magma-powered commercial businesses.
Terms & Conditions
- Implements or extends Magma features or functionalities to drive a Magma-powered product and business
- Licensed openly under the BSD 3 Clause license
- Limits: up to $1M and 12 months per PoC
Submissions
Requestors submit proposal to grants@magmacore.org and posts to GitHub under https://github.com/magma/grants/issues
Grant proposals that do not follow this flow will not be reviewed
Review Process
Funding sponsor review
Delegates from the sponsoring entity confirm that the proposals are structured with
- clear milestones
- timelines
- deliverables
- logical business case including
- elevator pitch of TAM
- sales pipeline
- demonstrated value to the broader Magma community
- ensure appropriate acceptance criteria for payment once work is completed
Feedback will be provided to submitters to provide opportunity to strengthen proposal where appropriate
Once approved by the sponsoring entity, proposals are sent to the Magma Core Foundation for further review
Magma Core Foundation review
Technical Advisory Committee Review
- Strategic
- Does this proposal benefit the entire Magma community (or is it niche for a specific vertical)?
- Where does it fit on the community roadmap?
- Stack rank approved proposals in order of priority
- Recommend any prorated funds
Technical Steering Committee Review
- Review the technical merits of the proposal and requesting team. Details here.
Governing Board Review
- Strategic Commercial Review: does this grant enable a self sustaining business (or is it just a feature for a specific use case)?
- Arbitrates any conflict of interests
- Provides final approval of which proposals will proceed to be funded, leveraging contracts directly from the MCF
Timelines
- All grant proposals for review in current quarter must be submitted by 1st Friday of the final month of the quarter
- All proposals submitted later will be reviewed for the following quarter
