• As the Contributor Guide is coming together it is time to look beyond and identify further activities to plan with

• Community entry points 

  • How to make the technical documentation more available for non-developers?

    • Ildiko got feedback about the deployment docs that they seem to be very developer focused and it makes them hard to follow on occasion

  • Entry points to the community and starting points for someone who is not a developer are hard to find

• Attracting new contributors and increase retention

  • Contributor attribution related ideas

    • Badging system

      • ie: Badge for the first PR

  • Reward system?

    • Giving out swag items like stickers or t-shirts

• Metrics

  • Need to decide what metrics to keep in mind and monitor, if any

• Look into pain points and difficulties that contributors face to make improvements

• Contributor groups

  • Developers and non-developers

  • What entry points they might be looking into and what obstacles they face

  • → Need to look into the processes and make sure that they are documented

• Where to start to contribute?

  • ie: someone is looking into trying to contribute to security related items

  • channel on Slack for new contributors to ask questions and get help to get started

  • Mentoring

    • How to mentor new comers who have a desire to contribute, but don't know where to start and how to take the first few steps?

    • Participate in mentoring programs

    • Mentor non-developer?

  • Recognize new contributors: ie: https://github.com/caddyserver/caddy/releases

• Increase contributor base

  • Universities have programs for students to work on open source projects

  • Look into other telecom related 

• Documentation!!

  • How to help the community to ensure to have documentation beyond developer resources

  • War stories as examples of challenges and how to overcome them

    • (More) Content on the blog

    • → Need to ensure that the process to contribute blog posts is clear and well documented!

      • Can provide content ideas in the guidelines as well, ie: a new release should get a new blog post on the Magma blog

      • How to help authors with reviews, polishing out the text, etc?

      • Guidelines should contain information about what topics to cover and what topics do not fit on the blog

      • Look for volunteers who would help authors with less experience in writing to reduce the barrier for this kind of contribution

      • Additional help could include: Interview kind of setup can also work, if someone has an idea, but has difficulties to write it down

  • Sync with Kader to see what he's been learning from the 5G intro session series that he's been organizing
